Commissions

Look 07 has organised three important commissions in addition to providing more than twenty opportunities for photographers to give talks or to lead workshops or events. Images from two of these can be found on our Online Gallery. More from the Julian Germain project will be available shortly.

The BUPA Great Manchester Run Commission:

Look 07 commissioned the photographer, Andrew Williams, to work with ‘Blind Dave Heeley’ and his guide runner ‘Mad Mac Carr’ to try to give people a sense of what it is like for Dave to run in a field of more than a thousand runners without being able to see the road ahead or the people around him. A former marathon runner himself, Andrew ran part of the BUPA Great Manchester Run course with Dave and Mac and used their comments as the inspiration for a series of photographs.

The Manchester Fairtrade Commission:

Look 07 commissioned Jill Jennings to work with a number of fair-trade outlets in the city’s Northern Quarter to find out what staff and customers thought about fair-trade. The commission was organised in conjunction with the Manchester Food and Drink Festival and the Fairtrade Unit of Manchester City Council.

Later on Friday, militiamen loyal to rebel Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr removed their weapons from the revered Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf as part of an effort to end 2-week-old uprising centered on the holy site. Look 07 has commissioned Julian to collaborate with its media sponsors, The Associated Press and the Metro newspaper, to produce a special supplement that will contain all the images submitted by the international news agency to the Metro newspaper within a single twenty-four hour period. The project will present a fascinating insight into the changes in the media industry and how global news stories are now made.

Copies of the supplement will be distributed free from galleries throughout Greater Manchester.
